Report Forecasts the 2009 U.S. Construction Machinery Equipment Markets

MUNDELEIN, Ill., January 11, 2009 - Manfredi & Associates, publishers of Machinery Outlook, recently released its annual U.S. Construction Machinery Market Forecast. It predicts that 2009 U.S. construction equipment retail unit sales will decreases during the beginning of the year with improvements beginning in the third quarter and accelerated improvement in the fourth quarter.

The Forecast details U.S. construction machinery retail unit sales levels for 13 construction equipment product markets and analyzes the industry outlook for 2009. The retail sales levels for all product categories is trending down, with the exception of cranes and haulers, which is a reflection of continued strength in non-residential construction and mining segments.

"Our analysis predicts 2009 will be a challenging year with U.S. construction equipment retail unit sales markets, down 20% due to the slowdown in all segments of the U.S. economy," said Frank Manfredi, President. "However, we expect 2010 to show some recovery."

Compared to 2008, the following product segments are showing decreases ranging from 11.9% to 38.9%: cranes, pavers, backhoes, hydraulic excavators, compactors, crawler tractors, rubber tracked loaders, articulated haulers, skid steer loaders, rough terrain forklifts, wheel loaders, motor graders and rigid haulers.

The Forecast includes four years of historical data and the following sections:
  • Equipment Market Review - analyzes equipment markets in detail
  • Construction Equipment Retail Leading Indicator Index - assesses construction machinery retail sales trends
  • Estimated U.S. Retail Unit Sales of Construction Machinery - includes shipments, imports and exports
